Guide Just something I came up within the day. It's a bit vague in some parts.. General Information- Name: What does your character's name? This is pretty difficult to come up with. If you're blocked, do some searching around. To have just a first name or a full name, whichever you prefer. Do not use other languages for your character's name unless you've taken classes for that language or are extremely fluent in it. If you have no knowledge in it don't bother, I'm talking to you weeaboos especially. It's a culture and I simply find it insulting. Alias: What is your character also known by? Really it's your call in what their nickname is. Some refers to their ability, like an Electric Pokemon named Sparky. Age: The number in which you put here should reflect your FC's abilities and personality. Birth Date: When was your character born? You don't have to put the years in as most games don't even put that into consideration. If there is, just do the math. Species: Hedgehog's and foxes are the most overused species amongst the Sonic fan-base. Unless you REALLY know how to make them stand out from the crowd, I suggest avoiding the two. Gender: The choice is yours in the gender of your character. Male, female, none or robot. Height: Your call. Use feet and inches or centimeters. Keep in mind that some species are taller than others, whether or not they're Sonic looking or anthro furries. Weight: Again, your call. Use pounds or kilograms. Match it to the species to some degree to make it fit your character. Dominate Hand: Is your FC left handed, right handed or both? Remember lefty's are almost as rare as catching a legendary Pokemon with a regular Pokeball. Birth Place: Where was your character born? Residence: Where does your character reside? It doesn't have to be where they were born, but everyone should has a place they call home, whether or not they live in a house. Occupation: What does your character do for a living and gets PAID to do it. Wondering to lands is NOT a payable job. Being a student is one of the only jobs I know in which one does not get paid for, yet can still use as an occupation. Most that work have one job. Few have multiple. If you're FC is one of the few I think three or four should be the maximum amount. Personality, I cannot see how one can handle 4 or more with how little time there is in each day has. Economic Class: Upper, middle, lower and those in between. This is reflected on how well your character is living financially. Little to no money? That's lower class. Enough to get by? Middle. Upper, well, you know what it is without me saying. Your FC's occupation, more often times then not, reflects their financial stability. Marital Status: Single? Relationship? Married? Divorced? Alignment: THIS site has some pretty interesting information about alignments and such. If it's too advanced then here's a more simple one: Light (good), Neutral, Dark (evil). A character can be in between as well (neutral-good, dark-neutral). Universe of Origin: Where is your FC from, originally? It is possible for a Sonic character to somehow teleport to the Mario Universe (reference to SMBZ). For the sake of your backstory/history field, though, I suggest keeping to the game series your character originates from. Or maybe your character is from a world of your own creation? If that's the case, more power to ya. Personality- I did struggle in where to put this section. Your FC will have a general outward appearance in which strangers will see them as, as well as one in which their friends will know. A little food for thought: Whether they are smart enough to know it or not, everyone has an ideology, ideas that guides one to their expectations, actions and goals. You may guide your character, but they are guided by their beliefs and what they desire to accomplish. Personal Relations- Everyone has some relationship with someone, whether they like it or not. Many will say to keep official characters our of this for originality's sake and I agree to a degree. It won't make your character stand out or be special, if fact they'll most likely smite your character as unoriginal. That's why the only place in which I feel an official character should be in is the "Friend" field, with an explanation of being only a vague pal in your character's history. Use your other FCs in this section. Using other people's FC's is something that you and the other person(s) will have to discuss. The only field that's special is affiliations and it's optional as not all characters are apart of a team/group/clan/gang/etc. Personal Information- These are what make your character look just a bit more normal. Hobbies: This is something that pasts your character's time when they're not doing their job. Something that they take pleasure in doing. These are hobbies, by the way; they don't come free without a payment. Remember: Hobbies cost money, Interests are free. =P Talents: What are they really good at, near the point of being gifted in it? Drawing? Acting? Habits: We all have them. Picking your nose. Biting your teeth. Over analyzing things. Maybe running their hand through their hair every so often? Some quirk that makes them seem more "down to Earth". Likes: Other than there hobby(s), what else is it that your FC like? Walks on the beach? Playing certain kind of games? Reading? Whatever you want. Dislikes: Opposite of likes, what is it that your character doesn't like? Heights? Math? Loud music? Choice is yours. Favorite Gourmet: Something that, when put into their mouth, would probably give your character a foodgasm. Favorite Beverage: Same as above, but with a drink. Self-explanatory. Vehicle: Optional. I swear, everyone walks to where ever they go. But if you do decided to have transportation for your FC, I say go all out. Give us the specs of this vehicle. Nothing says bad ass than a bear who has a Jeep for a car. Theme Song: This optional field is quite an important on if you decide to use it. Unless they're based off of one, a song will be tough one find that can express the uniqueness of your character when taking into account the beat, tone and lyrics. Yes lyrics. You'll be surprised who some people would put a song in this field because it's dope and when you listen to it it has very little to do with the character they attached it to. I can't give much more in the way in finding one, but I believe you'll know for yourself when you hear it. Physical Appearance- The outward appearance of your character will make or break how people will judge your character. You may have a GREAT character, but it will all be ignored if they're just a recolor. It's not bad to use original characters as a base, but do get creative in constructing their appearance. That includes their clothes. Whether you use a picture or words, is up to you as it's a double-edged sword either way. Remember to be as detailed as you can. If you're no good at drawing and can't have someone to help you on it, write it up. The same goes vice-versa. Good at both? Then do both if you want. Don't have the skills of either? Then hope someone takes your request for help and be sure to give them credit where it's due. Combat Information- I can guarantee you that most FCs are used to fighting. Depending on your character and how they fight should determine everything they have in this section. Robots and some cyborgs get a special notice, as their arsenal can be almost limitless, when given the detail. Battle Psychology: I'd like to thank the =SB= Tournament in coming up with this one. Everyone has some tactics in which they go about engaging enemies. Some prefer attacking from a distance. Others like to be up close where the action. Some are tanks, while others are stealthy or acrobatic. Do he/she hack and slash away? Do they support others with healing and buffs? Does he insult his opponent to force a slip up? Or does she manipulate them with physical attraction and then strike when they're guard is down? Plenty of thought can be had here. Weaponry and Equipment: The choice is yours in what your character welds. You'll want to do some research in the weapon you're using as fighting with one, without knowledge in it, makes you a novice at best and an stupid amateur at least. Keep in mind in the time period in which your character is in, as I highly doubt people would use bows and arrows over jedi laser guns unless there is a specific reason. Oh, and remember, Chaos Emeralds are off limits. That's Shadow's area of expertise and to start off with one is bullsh*t to say the least. Find one like everyone else. Skills & Aptitudes: Skills is what strengths and knowledge your character can employ. Each skill should have a paragraph explaining what the skill is and how your character uses it. Aptitude is an innate ability that character is naturally gifted in; the talent field can be of some help if your character can make use of it in battle. Everyone should have at least one innate ability they have in their disposal they're useful in combat. Spells & Techniques: Spells and Techniques are special attacks unique to your character. Like how Shadow is the only one what knows Chaos Spear, which I do not condone the use Chaos-energy techniques. List them out and go into detail like in the Skills section, if not more. Explain how your character musters the to charge up their attack. How it looks. Leave no detail unchecked. The more powerful ones require some charge time. Most have a cooldown time to prevent one from spamming the same special attack too quickly. Weaknesses: Just as your character has strengths, they must also have weaknesses, especially when it comes to fighting. Don't take the pathetic route and use "friends being captured" approach as everyone is susceptible to it. Minimum: 4. If you have more weaknesses listed than there are Skills, I find that to be a plus. History- Many claim this important. To an extent, it is. This is mainly to storyboard the life of your FC and how the came to be they he/she currently is. No one learns how to be an element master in a day. Nobody dislikes people in general without a reason. This is your chance to explain in greater detail your character their their back story of their life. Again, this isn't the most important part of your character's profile, but it does tie it all up. Author's Sidenotes- This field is for you to talk about however it is about your character. Personally I track the progress of my FC here in mentioning my edits. References are a maybe, since your can use [url ][/url] code what you're trying to say; don't make references to official characters, as it'll make it looks like you're ripping them off, comparing your to them just won't help you in the long run. How about the purpose of making your character? Just tossing out ideas. Closing thoughts I don't care how you use this template. If this is a bit much for you to handle, then delete what fields you can't fill or don't find necessary; the Personal Relations and Personal Information sections are not too important if you're looking to shorten the profile length. If you think this template doesn't have enough enough fields or is missing some, by all means add what you think is important to where you think it should go. I don't care, to be honest. This template is just stepping stones to guide you in making a good, original character for yourself. A day probably won't be enough. It may take years to work up a character that is truly original and unique. Hell it's taken me more than 7 years of adding and removing things to get three of my characters to how they are today, and I'm STILL haven't finalized them. Whether you end up having triple digit number of FCs or only a select few, build your character how you see fit. Analysis on not only other people's works, but also the criticism they get. Do some research to gain common knowledge in things you're adding to your character (oh, how I want to stress that). Remember to give detail. And above all else, have fun. This isn't homework, ya know. |P Maybe I should thank my laptop for breaking down on me, eh, ~TakeCare Edited by `TakeCare, Jun 1 2012, 08:20 PM.

Oh my. This is the second most complicated character sheet I've ever seen. O_O Luckily, I happen to like complicated... *grin* Nice work, TC. I shall be putting this to good use. Stats excluded, mind you; I only use tabletop RPG stats if I'm gonna bing numbers into things. :< I'm stubborn like that.

^ ha. Use what you want. Update: Nov 01, 2009. I've simplified this profile. Some message boards, unlike this one, fail at dealing with complex coding, list function within a list function. So I've removed most of them, which is making me wish I knew the function for tab. Bold should be good enough, but if it doesn't look nice you still have italics in the wings. Listing is still up in there if you wish to use it, but be sure to remember the three codes for the function to work:

Update, three years later. |D So my laptop broke down on me a couple weeks ago. I'm lucky to have looked at my templates so many times that I could write most of it on paper, but as I looked at it it seemed like there were fields missing and some that didn't need to be there. I present my revised version, with a guide to accompany it. ^^ |

Well it's certainly very thorough, but I'm still trying to think of a situation where an FC's dominant hand would be vital information to list.

Where's the picture? I don't see it, mate. If it's the left of the post, well that's an avatar. xD' In terms of fighting it can be interesting. Regular vs South Paw fighting stances. How one welds and uses a weapon. It can make a fighting different as most are used to fighting with there there left leg forward and someone who does the same. I was wondering why this was here. |D Sweet. I did mention that you can delete whatever you want from it in my closing thoughts. <D' To everyone else, thanks for the comments. Any feedback would be great as I couldn't really find a way to shorten it myself. |D' EDIT: Grammar check. I love Firefox so finding my misspells. |3 Edited by `TakeCare, Jun 1 2012, 08:21 PM.
